America Recycles Art Project
Artist: Apinya Srikhwanthong
Artwork name: Whimsical Cacti Techniques: Paper Maché* Materials used: Recycled paper from unused magazines, brochures, and newspaper. |
IDEA
My paper sculptures are made from recycled paper with paper maché* and painting techniques to support going green America. I chose to create a cactus set because it is inspired by beautiful Texas where cactus plants typically grow. |
ABOUT PAPER MACHÉ*
Paper Maché is a composite material consisting of paper pieces or pulp, and bound with glue for 2-3 layers or more. The drying time depends on a lot of factors, including temperature, humidity, and airflow. On hot and humid Texas days I have had layers fully dry within 48-72 hours. The end result brings up an interactive feeling of transformation that is simply magical and eco-friendly. |
